Frequently asked questions

Everything merchants ask before and after installing Mapify.

Getting started

Is there a free plan?

Yes — Free forever, for up to 5 locations. It includes the store locator, CSV import, hours/tags/filters, geolocation search, and BYOK AI for the admin chatbot. No credit card required, and we never show ads.

Do I need a Google Maps or Mapbox API key?

No. Mapify runs on OpenStreetMap by default, with no key required. If you'd rather use Google Maps or Mapbox, you can connect your own key (BYOK) on the Starter plan and up — Mapify never marks up or resells map-provider usage.

How do I add the locator to my storefront?

From the Theme Editor, add the "Store locator" block to any page — no code required. The onboarding wizard walks you through it after your first location is added.

What languages does the storefront locator support?

Eight at launch: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. Full 8-language coverage is available on Starter and up; Free ships with one storefront language.

Dealers, inventory & pickup

What's the difference between a Location and a Dealer?

A Location is anywhere your own inventory lives (a store, warehouse, or pickup point) that you manage directly. A Dealer is a third-party retailer who applies to be listed — Mapify tracks their application, approval, and ongoing activity separately.

How does "available near me" inventory work?

Once you connect your Shopify Locations to Mapify Locations, we sync real-time stock so shoppers only see locations that actually have the product (or the selected variant) in stock. This is a Growth-plan feature.

Can shoppers pick up cart items instead of shipping?

Yes — the pickup-suggestion widget ranks nearby locations that have every item in the cart in stock, using rules you configure (distance, required service, priority). Also a Growth-plan feature.

AI features

Do I need an AI key to use Mapify?

No. Every AI feature has a deterministic, non-AI fallback — address normalization, description drafting, and the admin chatbot's KB search all work without any AI key configured. Configuring a key just adds polish on top.

How does AI pricing work?

AI is entirely bring-your-own-key (BYOK): you connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or supported Chinese provider key, and you're billed directly by that provider. Mapify never marks up AI usage or takes a cut.

Is the storefront chatbot the same as the admin one?

They're separate. The admin chatbot (setup help, operational questions) is available on every plan with a configured key. The storefront-facing shopper chatbot is a Growth-plan feature, and merchants choose whether to enable it.

Billing & plans

How does billing work?

All paid plans run through Shopify's own Billing API — charges appear on your normal Shopify invoice, and there's no separate payment method to manage. Every paid plan includes a 14-day free trial.

What happens if I downgrade below my location count?

Nothing is ever deleted. If a downgrade drops you below your new plan's location cap, the oldest-kept locations stay published and the newest overflow is automatically unpublished (hidden from the storefront, retained in the database) — you can re-publish with one click after upgrading again.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, directly from the Billing page in the app, or from Shopify's own "Manage apps" screen. Cancelling reverts you to the Free plan at the end of the current period — your data is never deleted.

Data & uninstalling

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Uninstalling immediately stops all background processing and revokes stored OAuth tokens. Shopify sends a shop/redact webhook 48 hours later, and Mapify permanently deletes every piece of shop-scoped data at that point — locations, dealers, applications, leads, sync connections, and settings.

Is my data ever sold or used for ads?

Never. Mapify doesn't sell merchant or shopper data, and the app never injects ads into your storefront. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what's stored and why.
