Why consistency matters
Search engines cross-reference your business details across directories to decide how much to trust you. When your phone number is formatted three ways and your address appears with two suite numbers, that trust erodes — and your local ranking with it.
Fix the foundation first
Pick one canonical NAP and make everything match it exactly.
- One exact name, address, and phone — no variations.
- The same NAP on your site, Google Business Profile, and Bing Places.
- Consistent entries across the top directories in your country.
- Update everywhere at once when anything changes.
Then keep it clean
Citations are not a one-time task. New directories appear and old entries drift. Periodically audit your listings so a stray old address does not undo months of local SEO work.
